All eyes might be focused on Las Vegas for the big series going on in the heart of the desert, but the spotlight is about to shift to Atlantic City as the Borgata Summer Poker Open gets underway this July at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

This is the big series you’ve been waiting for, right here in New Jersey. And BorgataPoker.com is your best bet for grabbing seats in these three big tourneys:

  • $1 million Guaranteed Kick-off event
  • $300,000 Almighty Stack Tournament
  • $1 million Guaranteed Summer Poker Open Championship

Borgata Poker has had a long history with the Cabot Creamery Co-op of hosting a charity poker tournament to raise money for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Southern Branch.

For this year’s Eighth Annual “Put a Bad Beat on Hunger” charity tournament, we’re incorporating the event as part of the Borgata Summer Poker Open.

Event 3 of 20 main events for the open (July 12 to July 29), the “Put a Bad Beat on Hunger” tournament is scheduled for Friday July 15 at 4pm. The tournament is a $250 + $30 + 20 buy-in, with that last $20 being donated to the Community Food Bank. In addition, the winner receives a $3,500 entry voucher into the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship in September.

As much as poker players may love going to first-rate casino rooms like Borgata’s Poker Room to test their skills, you can bet on one thing. Pretty much everybody learned to play poker at home in a game with family and friends.

And whether you started playing for Oreo cookies, matches or pennies, chances are you have pretty good memories of those games—especially the weird ones that seemed made up out of thin air.

You know which games we mean. There’s the game where you stick a card to your forehead or grandpa’s game where all the red cards are wild.

One of those games that you may have played is Crazy Pineapple, a variation of Hold’em. Yes, not only is the game named after a fruit, it’s named after a mentally unstable fruit. But not in a bad way though. You know, wild and crazy fruit.

Dad had to have made that game up, right? Wrong, it’s a real game, though trying to figure out where it came from is anybody’s guess.

But we do know where it’s landed—at Borgata’s Summer Poker Open. Yes, for the 2015 edition of the open, we’re introducing Crazy Pineapple for Event 7 of the open, Saturday July 18. The tournament carries a $300 + $40 buy-in.

Crazy pineapple is a pretty straight-forward game that uses one simple rule change to dramatically change the game play of a Hold’em hand. Each player is dealt three hole cards before the flop. That’s right, three cards. After the flop, any players staying in the pot has to put one of those cards into the muck. The turn and river play out normally.

The main event schedule for the Borgata Summer Poker Open, July 14 to July 31, has been released and as usual, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is making a lot of guarantees.

Specifically, $1.55 million in guaranteed tournaments starting with the $500,000 guaranteed opening event July 14.

It’s a pretty eclectic mix of tournament action for the summer open with bounty tournaments, Omaha, deep stack and turbo tournaments. There’s even some Crazy Pineapple on the schedule (Event 7, July 18). Check out the full schedule here.

The opener is a $500,000 guaranteed, $350 + $50 Deep Stack No Limit tournament with four opening sessions scheduled for July 14 and 15 (two a day).

Another major event is event 10, a $200,000 Guaranteed, $260 + $40 Almighty Stack (100K starting stack) No Limit tournament that also has four opening sessions split between July 19 and 20.

Of course the other big event is the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship, a $500,000 guaranteed, $2,300 + $200 No Limit event that starts July 26. Opening sessions are July 26 and July 27 (one each day).
