The Bermuda Triangle board game is a vintage game based on the area of the Atlantic Ocean known as the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ in which ships and planes are claimed to disappear.
Background
The game was published in 1974 by Milton Bradley, at a time when the mysteries surrounding the Bermuda Triangle were highly popular in the press. That year two highly suceesful books on the subject were published: ‘The Bermuda Triangle’ by Charles Berlitz, and ‘The Devil’s Triangle’ by Richard Winer.
Both books offered paranormal explanations and theories for the various disappearances in the region, ranging from U.F.Os to the lost city of Atlantis, and the mystery captured the public’s imagination.

The main aim of the game is to run a successful shipping company by moving your ship from port to port with different cargo loads. The value of these loads goes up and down during the game, so players attempt to reach certain ports at certain times to get the best price. Players can use tactics to halt their opponent’s boats by blocking shipping lanes or sending them back to another port.
Escape The Bermuda Triangle Game
The board features a raised plastic three-dimensional storm that is held above the board on a rod. Each player moves the cloud along with the ship on their turn, in an attempt to avoid it and send it towards the other players.
The underside of the cloud features magnets which will pick up ships from the board, causing them to mysteriously ‘disappear’ and either be destroyed or moved off course.
How much is a Bermuda Triangle board game worth?
Mint or near-mint condition copies of the game, including all their components, can be found on auction sites such as eBay for $15 to $30.
